8 Things To Change Your Life Now.
In the months of May and June it seemed like everyone I know was going through some type of suffering and transition, myself included.
For many of us there seems to be a higher level of change than usual, from taking a new job, adjusting to parenthood, additional responsibility, loss of a loved one, caring for an elderly parent, starting a new relationship, moving, ending a relationship, or letting go of aspects of being that no longer serve us.
The first thing to go usually is the desire to move. We feel stuck emotionally and physically. It’s hard to feel in touch with the energy flowing through you when you’re parked at your desk, couch, or worse, don’t even want to get out of bed. When something crashes in life, everything seems to just go gloom and doom. Internally we feel sluggish, and life tends to feel harder than usual and perhaps at times, hopeless.
Sound familiar?
Make no mistake about it, transition and transformation are tough. Or is it? Perhaps it is just how we perceive it.
1. Time
The timeframe we allow ourselves to suffer is a choice and this varies from person to person. Pick a time frame you will allow yourself to have your pity party with a designated end to suffering deadline.
2. Acceptance
Accept that there is a situation and embrace it rather than feeling negative about it, look for the positive. Embrace the experience and learn from it. Forgive…Change your life.
3. Move a muscle, change a thought.
Also known as pick your ass up, dust yourself off, and get moving! Practice yoga, take a walk, ride your bike, take a class, or meditate. Or choose from my personal favorites — which is free and can be done in the privacy of your own home (or someone else’s ;-)) — have a 5-minute dance party (I like Party Train, by The Gap Band) or a sexy shower dance. Whatever you choose, be present while you do it.
4. Change
This can be as difficult or as easy as we decide to make it. Yes, it is that simple. Create a small obtainable goal every day and start small. Initiate action! Journal your start date for this goal to determine how long it takes to become comfortable with it. Perhaps take a different route to work, switch which side of the bed you sleep on, or switch up your morning routine.
5. Surrender
I am not saying that we should all just throw our hands up in the air and give up. Surrender to the moment because whatever we resist, will persist. Stay present. Don’t let the past consume you or the future worry you. We can’t undo the past and no matter how much you get your head wrapped up in it, we do not know what the future holds. Change the perspective and change your life.
6. Eat
When we lose sight of who we are and what we want, we sometimes also forget to eat properly and drink water. Nothing feeds the soul like a great meal. Treat yourself to your favorite restaurant out on the town or prepare a virtual feast at home if you enjoy cooking. It is ok to do this with friends and/or family if you desire. Personally, my first feel-good meal I like to do alone so that I can immerse myself in every morsel of deliciousness I am putting in my mouth. It centers me, keeps me present, conscious, and observant of my goal.
7. Reclaim your uniqueness
Quiet your mind. We know when our magic is flowing: Everything we see, feel, smell and taste are amazing, exciting, and beautiful, we feel energized and life feels balanced and bright. We feel connected to others and ourselves. Nothing brings you back into balance and calms your tweaked nervous system and stressed-out mind better than a great meditation.
8. Communicate, appreciate and validate
Return to a mindful state of being and love Reclaim your uniqueness. Take a moment, right now, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and appreciate something about yourself. Let the warmth of self-love envelop you. Have positive and uplifting talks with friends and relatives. Appreciate all the wonderful things you have, especially the people in your life that are always there for you. Validate them and what they bring to your life. Be grateful and always do something daily to change your life, serve others, and pay it forward.
