New Years Transformation

TRANSFORMATION. A NEW DAWN, A NEW DAY, A NEW YEAR AND A NEW LIFE FOR YOU.

New Years Resolutions – they’re all but a joke in our mainstream culture today. As soon as we’ve thought them up, we already “know” that we’ll never attain them, so we laugh with our friends about all the things we’re never going to accomplish. It’s all a little ridiculous.

However, there’s no doubt that there’s something about the New Years transformation that gives us a burning desire for transformation. It’s why the New Years Resolution became an item in the first place. When we see that big number at the end of the calendar move up a notch, we recognize the nature of time and the limited amount of it we have to live the life we dream of.

It is that recognition of the limitation of our time, which drives us to always dream a little bigger at the end of the year. It gives us an excuse to reflect on our lives and remember the things we aren’t doing.

There’s a big problem with most of us though – we never believe in our own ability to change.

Let’s be real. Change, in the sense of changing one’s habits and life patterns, is just plain difficult. Our mind, sometimes to our detriment, fixes itself into the rhythms we put it in, and oftentimes, the things we want to change about ourselves are rhythms that are years, even decades old. You can’t dream up some sort of flimsy “New Years Resolution” and expect yourself to adopt it just because you put a new calendar up.

But let’s also recognize the fact that our minds and our bodies have an incredible capacity to change. It may take some amount of will power, and even some strategy, but if you tackle it the right way, you really can change very fundamental things about yourself and about your own life. Modern neuroscience is proving the brain’s ability to change structure and function as it is put into new situations and taken it out of the old.

Do you want to make a change in your life? Is there some sort of habit, obligation, or maybe even a relationship in your life that you know is bringing you down? Have you now known for some time that it is time to distance yourself from this thing, but you just simply don’t know where to start? If you’re looking for transformation and how to keep your New Years Resolution this year, read on.

This holiday season; take a little time to respond to each of the following items. Let this be a time of true reflection on who you are now, who you want to be, and what paths are available to get there. While making the journey will take making new decisions, listening to your intuition and lot of desire, these first steps can provide you with the road map you need to move forward.

New Years Transformation

1) Write out the vision for yourself and your life. Don’t think small here. What do you want your lifestyle to be about? How could you make your hobbies and passions flow seamlessly with your career? Think about both your professional and personal life.

2) Where are you now? Reflect on how you feel about your life, what you want to change, what changes you feel are pressing.

3) List the resources you have to move from who are you today to who you want to be, the person you wrote about for question one.

4) Write out either one big thing or three small things you can do every day to use those resources to move you most efficiently to where you want to be.

5) List what you need to change in your life to make room for your transformation.

6) Write about how you will stay determined to change your old habits and bring in these new habits.

May this holiday season bring you and yours health, love and happiness.
