The emotional power of the color green

Have you ever thought about how colors may affect your subconscious mind, your mood, and your overall well-being? No? Well, I encourage you to think about that as you raise a glass of green beer and make a toast. Make the most of the holiday and ramp up your emotional intelligence while you’re at it!

So, what emotional power is associated with the color Green?

Envy & Jealousy

I’m sure you’ve heard someone talk about being “green with envy.” It’s a phrase that has been around for centuries. In fact, green was first used to describe envy or jealousy by poetess Sappho in the seventh century B.C. when she used “green” to describe a jealous lover. This goes WAY back.

There are a lot of things that can make us green with envy. Lovers, money, cars, and other people’s success are just a few examples. When we see someone else enjoying the things we want for ourselves, we become filled with overwhelming desire.  It is important that we do not let this wave of green emotion stick around for too long. Envy and jealousy are rooted in selfishness and greed. Being envious of the possessions of another can ruin our relationships and trick us into thinking that we are not worthy of success ourselves. It can be a sign that we are being too materialistic or possessive.

If you’re feeling jealous of your neighbor’s pot of gold, it’s time to start evoking some positive emotions surrounding the color green.

Love, Hope, & Renewal

While most people associate love with the color pink or red, our heart centers are actually ruled by the color green. Our ability to love, heal, and forgive all come from the heart center. Green is a nurturing color that reminds us that there is always room to grow, to love, and to renew ourselves.

According to Empowered by Color, the color green is associated with vitality, harmony, sympathy, compassion, prosperity, and generosity. It makes us feel energized, balanced, and ready to embrace all the world has to offer. Green’s ability to evoke empathy and compassion allows us to build strong connections with others. The color green fills us up and reminds us that we are all capable of giving and receiving love unconditionally.

Green’s revitalizing power can be found abundantly in nature, where it is a sign of life.  It is that glimmer of hope we get when we see our gardens begin to bloom after a long cold winter. The sight of new life fills us with excitement for the sunnier, happier days to come.

The emotional power color green elicits these positive emotions, making it the perfect holiday to help get us all into the Spring Spirit.
