Fear can be paralyzing, keeping us from moving forward with our life goals.  It’s really just stress and anxiety but holds us captive in a false state of comfort. We feel like we’re accomplishing something with it, but we’re not.

What do you fear? The bigger question is, will fearing something that “may happen” prevent it from happening? Not at all. Action and courage are what overcomes fear. Why? Because the action is the only thing that can fix the problems or issues that are alarming us.  Action is the one thing that can push us forward. Action alone can prevent our panic from happening.

What exactly is fear? It’s an emotion, one we often let rule our lives. When we allow us to take over, it can keep us from doing important stuff, telling us that it’s safer to do nothing at all.

The secret to fear, though, is that it’s necessary in small doses. You may think you like your comfort zone, being in a predictable space, and not feeling that jolt of fear, but how will you ever grow if you stay there? We may experience fear in seeing a child drown, but it wouldn’t stop us from helping that child, right? We would have, or at least fake, the courage and take action to save that child from drowning.

Mel Robins states in The 5 Second Rule “When you act with courage, your brain is not involved. Your heart speaks first, and you listen.”

The 5 Second Rule suggests that in a moment of fear, we insert the action of counting down: “5-4-3-2-1 Go!” So there is no time to be scared and have fear, you just take action and go with it before your brain catches up to what you are doing. This way, you don’t risk letting your fear keep you from doing what you need to do to reach your goals.

What does that mean? If you have passion and heart and don’t sit around and let the thoughts of what you need to do scare you, you can overcome your fear.

I encourage you to 5-4-3-2-1 Go! today. Take control of your fear; don’t let it stop you from living the life you deserve.
